Manufacturing technology scouting · Austin, Texas
Industrial technology search.
Wexumi compares technology directions and screens external capability for industrial companies in the United States. Get a scored fit brief, not a directory of suppliers.
Price basis: Search breadth, technical screening depth, and partner conversations required. This is inquiry-only consulting. The scope and quote are agreed after a conversation.

A supplier can have a convincing demonstration and still be the wrong partner for the plant. We look for the difference.
Manufacturing technology scouting compares methods before committing to names. An optical inspection approach may depend on stable lighting and a repeatable fixture. A material separation method may depend on feed consistency or cleaning conditions that a bench test never addressed. Those dependencies belong in the search brief, not in a late discussion after equipment has been selected.
Wexumi is a small industrial innovation consultancy, not an equipment reseller. Our role is to translate the operating requirement into a search and record what the available evidence supports. Technical conversations test that fit. They do not create a partnership agreement or a supplier commitment on their own.
| Entry condition | A sufficiently bounded operating need, with known constraints and a decision to make. |
|---|---|
| Search unit | A technology direction or external capability, assessed against the same agreed brief. |
| Output | A scored fit brief, evidence references, open questions, and a reasoned route to the next conversation or test. |
| Commercial basis | Search breadth, screening depth, and the partner conversations needed to resolve fit. |
| Boundary | Advisory screening. Equipment supply, purchasing, legal diligence, and binding partner terms are not created by the search. |

The search brief
Write the constraints before collecting the names.
The same requirement must reach every credible candidate. Otherwise one partner quotes a complete installation, another offers a prototype, and the comparison starts looking precise while comparing different work.
- 01
The job the technology must do
Describe the required function without prescribing a product. Detecting a surface defect is a function; buying a camera is one possible route. Keep the method open until the evidence justifies narrowing it.
- 02
The operating envelope
State the relevant throughput, material variability, temperature, and access conditions with their units. Separate a measured range from an estimate so a candidate cannot mistake an assumption for a guaranteed input.
- 03
Integration and ownership
Identify existing equipment interfaces and the work the plant can actually own. A method requiring specialist adjustment every shift has a different burden from one the operating team can maintain.
- 04
Evidence worth requesting
Ask for results under comparable conditions, the limits of those results, and access to technical clarification. A published capability statement is a lead, not a verified answer to the search question.
- 05
The next decision and its boundary
Specify whether the immediate need is a technical conversation, a sample test, or a pilot proposal. Agree what would rule a candidate out before a familiar name begins to bias the review.
Partner-screening criteria
Score the fit. Keep the uncertainty visible.
A high total must not conceal a failed requirement. The brief distinguishes non-negotiable conditions from preferences and records the basis for each assessment. Unknown does not mean acceptable.
The fit brief
- Technical relevance
- Does the proposed method address the stated function and operating envelope? Record the closest comparable evidence and where the comparison breaks down. A steel part in a controlled fixture is not equivalent to a reflective part moving unpredictably on a line.
- Evidence quality
- Distinguish partner claims from documented results and results witnessed or tested within the engagement. Keep a source and its conditions beside the judgment so a reader can challenge it.
- Integration burden
- Identify interface work, physical access, and any dependence on utilities or controls changes. An attractive component price does not explain the work required to make the method usable.
- Partner capacity
- Clarify which work the candidate performs directly and which requires other organizations. Ask who will answer technical questions during a trial and what availability has actually been confirmed.
- Testability
- Define a useful next test and the evidence it would need to produce. If the proposed demonstration cannot distinguish success from a favorable setup, it is not yet a decision test.
- Unresolved conditions
- Separate matters for technical follow-up from commercial or legal review. Data access, ownership of results, and rights to use the technology need explicit agreement with the relevant parties.
A score is a comparison aid, not a certification or guarantee of a partner. Scoring definitions and any weights are agreed for the specific search; there is no universal rating presented here.
From brief to conversation
Narrow on evidence, not on familiarity.
A broad search and deep technical screening are different amounts of work. We agree where breadth is useful, where a conversation is necessary, and when the available evidence is enough to make the next decision.
- 01
Set the brief
Confirm the operating requirement and exclusions before looking outward. Resolve contradictions with the internal owner.
- 02
Compare methods
Search relevant technology routes, then assess external capability against the agreed conditions.
- 03
Screen the claims
Review sources and pursue scoped partner conversations. Mark missing evidence rather than filling gaps with inference.
- 04
Choose the next test
Present the fit brief with open questions and a recommended next step. Record a stop when no candidate fits.
Partner response times and access to technical information affect the schedule. The agreed decision window is a planning constraint, not a promise that a supplier will respond or participate.
Before commissioning a search
A known problem helps. A preferred supplier is not required.
This service fits a team that can describe the operating need but has not settled the technology route or partner. An existing shortlist is also useful: we can scope a challenge to its assumptions rather than restart the search for the sake of it.
If the production symptom itself is disputed, begin with industrial problem diagnosis. Technology partner search for industry cannot repair an undefined requirement. It simply produces more proposals that answer different questions.
A search does not guarantee that a suitable partner exists. Nor does a shortlist establish that a method is ready for the plant. Some searches end with a credible reason to pause. That is preferable to recommending a method whose important limitation remains hidden.
If the need is routine purchasing against a settled specification, an advisory search may be unnecessary. If technical options are already understood but nobody can authorize the next step, innovation strategy is the more useful conversation.
After the shortlist
Give the next conversation something to settle.
A search handoff should let the operating owner ask a sharper question. Rather than “Can you help us automate inspection?”, the discussion can focus on whether a method can separate the relevant defect from normal surface variation under the actual fixture constraints.
Where evidence is promising but incomplete, pilot planning and implementation support can establish the test boundary and review gate. The search does not quietly become a pilot commitment. Site readiness and responsibilities need their own scope.
A funding route may become relevant if the remaining work contains genuine development uncertainty. Grant and non-dilutive funding support starts with program fit and the project evidence; a shortlisted partner does not by itself make the project eligible.
Commission a focused search
Set the breadth before the work expands.
A comparison of known methods against one requirement needs a different scope from an open search involving unfamiliar materials and several technical conversations. The quote reflects that distinction.
Tell Wexumi what the next decision must resolve. We can then agree the screening depth and the evidence needed to make the search useful.
Price basis: search breadth, technical screening depth, and partner conversations required. Scope is confirmed separately. No equipment purchase or binding quote is offered on this page.
